Donald P. Heitzler, age 82, of Rockwall, TX, passed away on September 4, 2019. He was born November 13, 1936, in Wheaton, IL, to Arthur and Irene (Lambert) Heitzler. Don, the youngest of three children, grew up on a truck farm in Wheaton, IL, and was tasked with raising the family’s rabbits. He always said he’d never eat another rabbit again. In 1967, he met a TWA stewardess stationed in Chicago. Ruthann was the love of his life and they were married for over 50 years. Don and Ruthann raised 2 children in Morristown, NJ, and were fortunate to spend many years in retirement enjoying golf, gardening, reading, traveling and their grandchildren. Don loved the desert landscape and he and Ruthann lived in Green Valley, AZ, for 15 years before moving to Rockwall. Don was a graduate of Notre Dame University, served his country in the U.S. Army and worked for Prudential Financial for over 30 years. He will be missed dearly.
Don is survived by his wife: Ruthann Heitzler of Rockwall, TX; son: Gregory Heitzler and wife Kristin of Santa Cruz, CA; daughter: Gretchen English and husband Scott of Rockwall, TX; granddaughters: Auden and Abby Heitzler; grandson: A.J. English; sister: Nancy Sullivan of OH: Dr. Jack Heitzler and wife Joan of IL; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Saturday, September 7, 2019, at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location.
