On Monday night, the Forney ISD School Board announced a new partnership with Eastfield College and Texas Tech University, providing a streamlined approach that takes students from high school to community college and ending at a Tier 1 University all in Forney.
“Forney ISD students will have the opportunity to complete their core curriculum or associates degree through Eastfield College and then transfer to Texas Tech University to complete a bachelor’s degree right here in Forney, Texas.” Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry said. “This is a great opportunity, not only for our students, but for our community. For the first time, we are bringing associates, bachelors, and eventually graduate degree programs to our students and, now, our community. Beginning this spring, our community can register for online courses, and will soon be able to take classes on our campuses.”
Texas Tech University currently offers online courses for the Spring 2020 semester that Forney residents can take advantage of to earn a bachelor’s degree online and master’s and hybrid doctoral degrees for interested in pursuing a graduate degree.
“With a college and career center in the November 5 bond package, we plan to expand post-secondary learning opportunities right here in Forney for our students and community through our partnership with Eastfield and Texas Tech University,” Forney ISD Board President Greg Pharris said.
In the future, Texas Tech University plans to offer face to face courses in Forney to allow students and community the opportunity to complete a comprehensive bachelor’s degree.
“We will be launching a community survey this fall to see what career pathways interest our citizens, and what programs we can work to build for our community” Executive Director of Future-Ready Learning Robyn Pearce said.
Eastfield and Texas Tech will be at North Forney High School on November 5 from 6-8 p.m. and Forney High School on November 12 from 6-8 p.m. to answer questions during their Dual Credit Nights.
In the Spring of 2020, Forney ISD will hold joint information sessions for students and the community, and university counselors will be on our high school campuses one day per week to assist Forney ISD students and the community with course registration and information.
Texas Tech academic advisors are ready and available to provide advising services for students and community members interested in creating degree plans that cater to their interests and career pathways. Many of our Texas Tech University degrees will accept up to 72 hours of coursework from dual credit and community college sources to decrease the overall cost of a bachelor’s degree.
Eastfield offers an associates of science, associates of arts and associates of arts in teaching degrees that will all transfer to Texas Tech.
Texas Tech offers bachelors degrees in a hybrid and online setting through their regional sites, and Forney ISD is proud to serve as a new regional site. Degrees currently offered through the hybrid and online setting are bachelors of arts in science in general studies, bachelors of human sciences, bachelors of university studies and bachelor of arts in political science.
