Betty Lou Johnson Compton, age 94 of Rockwall, TX, passed away November 11, 2019. She was born November 16, 1924, in Birds, IL, to Lyle B. Johnson and Beatrice L. (Sandifer) Johnson. At a young age, she moved with her parents to Mt. Carmel, IL, and later worked for Thordison Miessner during the war. She had two children and became a single mom who made many sacrifices along the way.
Betty married Herbert D. Compton in April of 1967. They were happily married for almost 50 years and had a wonderful life together. Betty and Herb retired from Snap On Tools and spent many wonderful years traveling extensively, spending numerous winters in Florida and Texas. They made many wonderful friends along the way. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, their spouses and her many grandchildren. Herb and Betty resided at Fox Ridge Manor in Vincennes, IN, until Herb’s death in 2014.
Betty was a great cook and loved to fish, spending many hours on Mesa Lake while living there for several years. She also enjoyed creating embroidery and needlepoint projects. Betty was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries. After Herb’s passing, Betty moved to Rockwall, TX, to be near her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her time living at Lakeshore Assisted Living, where she made many friends. Betty had many wonderful years to spend with family and friends.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughters: Sandra Heflin and husband Jerry and LeeAnn Macy and husband Kevin; stepdaughter: Sally Wilkerson and husband Jerry; sons: Steven Compton and wife Margaret and Scott Compton and wife Marilyn; grandchildren: Keesha Peterson and husband Chad, Christy McPherson and husband Doug, Ashley Burns and husband Bruce, Erin Dale and husband Rusty, Brett Heflin and wife Elizabeth, Derrick Compton, Drew Compton, David Compton, Sean Macy and wife Katie, Jackie Slatter and husband William and Scott Wilkerson and wife Sue; great-grandchildren: Allie McPherson, Ethan, Brayden and Trevor Peterson, Clayton Dale, Bruce Burns, Ryder Elms, Emmitt Heflin, Katelyn East, Taylor Payton and husband Tim, Jordan Miller and wife Tabby, Jared Wilkerson and wife Ali and Aaron Wilkerson and wife Amy; five great-great-grandchildren; several in-laws and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband: Herbert Compton; and one daughter: Pamela R. Treni.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date in Mt. Carmel, IL.
