Greenville resident Adam Catino is turning 13 on Saturday. He had invited some of his peers from school at T3 in Greenville and everyone said they couldn’t come.
Adam was home schooled previously, but he decided he wanted to try going back to public school this year.
He started at T6 in Greenville and during the year he was diagnosed with psychogenic nonepileptic seizure disorder. When Adam gets anxious or stressed he can have up to a 45 minute seizure.
“It’s just how his body responds to it. Sadly though, in junior high and being the new kid it makes it super easy to pick on him,” Catino said. “He made a few friends who made it through the entire year with him but sadly being summer they have family plans this weekend. Adam didn’t have a party last year because he didn’t know anyone in Greenville yet and no one had said they could come.”
Then his mom took matters into her own hands. She decided to invite EVERYONE.
She made a post in the Greenville group on Facebook and before she knew it the response grew and kept growing.
“I posted in the Greenville Facebook page thinking maybe five or ten kids would show up and we could have a Nerf battle,” Catino said. “Well, Greenville showed up huge and now I cannot keep up with all of the people saying they are coming or they want to help out.”
There have been offers for DJ services, food and even specialty Nerf guns from people in the community.
The event has grown so much that it has been moved from its original location to Greenville SportsPark located at 3603 Leo Hackney Blvd. The event starts at 3pm on Sunday, July 24. They are expecting around 1,000 people.
Enter Jared Guynes, World Record holder and Epic Nerf Battle extraordinaire. Coming off of his first Epic Nerf Battle outside of Texas earlier this month.
Guynes, being the local “Nerf guy”, was contacted by Catino. He made his own post and as of publication it has more than 2,300 shares, more than 400 comments and 1,700 reactions.
Guynes already had previous engagements so he won’t be able to make the event, but he met Adam and gifted him some extremely exclusive Nerf swag.
From the looks of it, Adam is going to have the most EPIC 13th birthday a kid could ask for!
