Steven “Steve” Douglas Schmidt

Last updated on July 22, 2022

Steven “Steve” Douglas Schmidt, age 55, of Rockwall, TX, passed away peacefully at home – surrounded by his family and friends – on July 18, 2022, after a hard-fought, four-year battle with cancer. He was born October 25, 1966, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Paulette (Carmony) and Laverne D. Schmidt.

Steve was a loving, devoted husband and father whose deep and firm Christian faith made him a strong spiritual leader to his family. He was a godly man who shared and carried his faith until the very end with confidence, grace, and readiness to be with his Heavenly Father.

Steve always made it a point to share his faith wherever and whenever he could in everything he did. An avid mountain biker (who loved his Mojave Pivot Switchblade), he would meet with fellow bikers for Wednesday night rides to share the gospel in a group called the Dirt Disciples, which was started by his good friend and riding buddy, David McConnico.

An athlete and adrenaline junkie at heart, Steve loved the many trails he rode throughout Texas and Arkansas showing his scars from multiple bike wrecks with pride saying, “Chicks dig scars” and would be filled with laughter when the ER doctors knew him by name to stitch his injuries.

Along with biking, Steve was also a firm believer of health and fitness and worked out consistently in his home gym whether it was in the oppressive Texas heat or on uncomfortable cold winter days. He loved to share his fitness journey and inspire others to eat right and exercise.

His dedication and discipline to fitness carried into his profession at KAT Fabricators, where he enjoyed working in granite sales and design with many homeowners, designers, and builders for over 20 years. He loved his job and especially loved his KAT family.

Most of all, Steve loved his wife and children with all his heart, which he would always say was his biggest pride and joy. Being the biggest “kid” and goofball in the family, he was quick with his special brand of dad jokes and “dadisms” that would make his family groan with laughter. As a husband, he always went the extra mile to make his wife happy even if it meant building a special closet to house all her shoes and purses, which he would laughingly roll his eyes, smile, and happily say, “I’m doing this because I love you.”

With his infectious smile and fun sense of humor, he was a friend to many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Steve is survived by his loving wife: Melody Schmidt; children: Lauren Dalton-Cadungog, Syd Schmidt, and Reese Dalton; father: L.D. Schmidt and wife Lynda; and brother: Randy Schmidt.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Lake Pointe Church in Forney, TX, with Pastor Jeremy Prather officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Steve’s favorite organization 24 Hours in the Canyon: https://24hoursinthecanyon.org/donate/
