Margaret Opal Bangs

Margaret Opal Bangs, also known as “Bargo”, “Mother” or to a vast majority of those she met “Nana”, was born in Cooper, Texas on November 24, 1921, to Sherman and Grace Glossup. After living a life of over 100 years, she went to join the love of her life on September 21, 2022. She is survived by her brother Doug Glossup, her three children James Bangs, Mikel Bangs, and Carolyn Bangs; four grandchildren Michael Bangs and wife Keri, Jason Bangs and wife Bri, Kristi Valenzuela and husband Victor, and James Paul Bangs; fourteen great-grandchildren Jovan, Mercedes, Kyra, Kylar, Krislynn, Brittney, Peyton, Bridgette, Kennedy, Braydon, London, Jordyn, Victoria and Anthony; and three great-great-grandchildren Lauren, Madison and Tristen. She is preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Grace Glossup, sister Joyce Lucky, brother Lloyd Glossup and her husband JB Bangs, to whom she married in 1946 for 27 wonderful years, before his passing.

Very few of her kind are left and we were so blessed to have been given the years of love, support and knowledge she graced us with. It was natural for her to care for others, as she worked as a private duty nurse and then in the home of Juliett Fowler of Dallas, Texas. She loved the outdoors and all the adventures that came with it like camping and fishing. She was an avid walker and had a passion for the game of baseball along with a good match of professional wrestling. She absolutely adored the time spent with family sharing good food and a competitive game of BINGO. No one would even challenge her in a game of checkers, as they knew she could not be touched. Her diet primarily consisted of dessert, usually having it before her meal and again after. She was a loyal fan to her grandchildren and great-grand-children whether their baseball games were played in 100 degrees or 30 degrees. We knew to find shade for her lawn chair or figure out how to layer her up and tuck her in so Carolyn did not have to face the wrath of her not speaking for a day or two, if left at home. She loved celebrating Christmas and birthdays and truly never lost the excitement, joy and “glow” of that of a child. She taught us to love life, love one another but most importantly to never stop living for the next day no matter what life throws at you. Her spunk, her quick wit and her strength will never be forgotten; in fact, it gives us purpose.
