Walter “Jim” James Sturm

Walter James (Jim) Sturm, 91, of Royse City, TX, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Jim was born on November 24, 1930, to Molly Elizabeth and Carl Sturm in Rochester, PA. After graduating from Beaver Falls High in 1948, he served in the U.S. Navy 1948-1952 as weatherman during Korean War. He went on to study Engineering at Penn State University (graduated 1956) as well as MBA degree at SMU (1981). Jim was a mechanical engineer and worked for Alcoa (Lafayette, IN), Howmet (Rockwall, TX) and Kawneer (Norcross, GA) before retiring and moving back to Texas. After retiring he developed a passion for woodworking. He made many beautiful items such as crosses, nightstands, tables. Jim was very active serving his church and community. Over the years he held many positions on boards, committees, as trustee, as elder. Jim was the husband of the late Beverly G. (McClinton) Sturm. They married in 1951. After Beverly’s passing, he carried on her passion of making and donating baby quilts. He participated in competitive shooting, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed biking. He and Beverly were avid travelers to Alaska, Australia, Cairo, England, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, and Western Europe. There were many camping trips with his children, grand-children and extended friends and family.

Jim is survived by his daughters Deborah (Bobby) Sheridan, Nancy (Jim) Dean, Monica (Jim) Brock and son Bill (Patty) Sturm, grandchildren Jennifer, Holly (Shannon), Chris (Katie) and Ana (Jason) and great-grandchildren Sasha, Jay, Rose, Adrion, Gavin, Ryan, Hudson, Austin, Daniel, Jacob, Bennett and Carter. He also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

There will be a memorial service at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Rockwall, TX on October 16, 2022 at 2:00pm.
